Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona introduced a bill to establish a National Scenic Area (NSA) Designation for the greater Sedona area, cited as the 'Sedona-Red Rock National Scenic Area Act of 2010'. The purpose is to (1) restrict exchanges of land involving the National Forest System land included in the Scenic Area; and (2) manage the National Forest System land included in the Scenic Area as provided in the land and resource management plan for the Coconino National Forest. An NSA Designation would permanently protect the Forest Service lands that surround Sedona from land trades for the purpose of private development.
